More Exercises for Anxiety

As a follow up to my previous post of five anxiety reduction exercises, here are five more.

1. Try a yoga pose. For child’s pose, come to your hands and knees with your knees hip width apart and your big toes touching. Sit back on your heels and allow your belly to rest between your thighs and your rib cage to rest on your inner thighs. Place your forehead on the ground. Take 5-10 deep breaths.

2. Keep a small comforting object with you. When anxious, hold the object, focusing on its weight, color, texture and temperature.

3. Visualize a positive memory or moment. Bring it to mind as vividly as you can.

4. Do something physical. Do some jumping jacks, run up and down the stairs, do high knees. You can be physically active anywhere.

5. Repeat a self-love affirmation. Examples include “I am enough,” “I am safe and protected,” “I matter” and “I breathe in calmness.”
