There are many exercises you can do to help reduce anxiety. Many focus on the body in some capacity while others direct attention elsewhere. Here are five exercises to try.
1. Progressive muscle relaxation: Start with the muscles in your toes. Squeeze those muscles for 5 seconds then release. Repeat. Work your way up your body.
2. Body scan: Start by noticing any sensations in your feet. Just notice without feeling the need to change it. Work your way up your body, noticing what sensations come up.
3. Box Breathing: Inhale deeply through your nose for four counts, hold for four counts and exhale through your mouth for four counts. Repeat a few times through, focusing on your breath.
4. 54321: Notice five things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can touch, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste.
5. Mindful walk: Go on a walk and focus on one sense. Switch up your senses through the walk.
