Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
I accept Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna (Evernorth), United Healthcare (Optum) and CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield.
How do I know if I’m covered?
To understand your behavioral health benefits, contact your insurance company.
Questions to ask are:
- Do I have behavioral health coverage?
- Do I have behavioral health coverage for virtual therapy?
- Do I have a copay or deductible?
- If I have a deductible, how much of my deductible has been met?
- What is my coverage after I meet my deductible?
- Do I need a pre-authorization or referral and are there limits on the number of sessions? Are there any other limits?
- Confirm I am in network with your insurance company. I will be listed as Creating Solutions or Mary Rogers Kirby.
What about out-of-network benefits?
I can provide you a super bill to submit to your insurance for any out of network reimbursement. You will be responsible for the full cost of sessions up front and then can seek reimbursement with your insurance company.
Questions to ask your insurance company are:
- What is my out-of-network deductible?
- How much of my out-of-network deductible has been met?
Why are some benefits of private pay (not using insurance)?
Confidentiality. Your insurance company will not receive any information about you or request information about you. What is shared with your insurance company, which is dictated by your insurance company, is part of your permanent medical record.
Insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to receive services. Therapy can be incredibly beneficial even if you do not meet criteria for a diagnosis. Insurance companies can dictate how long you are in treatment or how many sessions you have instead of you and your mental health professional deciding this.
Even if an insurance company verbally informs you of your benefits, they do not guarantee payment and you can then be responsible for full payment if a claim is denied.
You don’t have to worry about coverage changing or not being able to continue seeing your mental health professional.
You have a much larger selection of mental health professionals to choose from.
What is the cost?
Sessions range from $150-$200.
What will sessions be like?
Virtual sessions are easy, you receive a link for each session prior to the session.
Your first full session is focused on information gathering and establishing goals. You can expect to be asked a lot of questions about a wide range of areas. Subsequent sessions are more conversational and focused on areas identified in the first session. You might be given homework to work on between sessions. My goal is to create a space where you feel you can be honest and open.
